SOUTHERN STEEL SHEET CO. LTD. AND THE SPEED-UP IN EXPORT TO THE U.S. MARKET IN 2018 – 2020

In the first half of 2018, the Vietnam economy has greatly developed with many projects of infrastructure, construction, real estates which has been or will be executed in the year. Simultaneously, the disbursement of public investment fund which has the Government done since the beginning of the year has created a good impetus for the growth of the steel industry in general and galvanized steel sheets in particular. Statistics from Vietnam Steel Association show that the production of steel of the whole country in the first six months has reached 4.69 million tons, 7% higher than the same period of the previous year. Along with the same growth of the steel and galvanized steel market in Vietnam, in the first half of 2018, Southern Steel Sheet Co., Ltd. has experienced greater production and consumption than planned.

At the moment, the galvanized, galvalume and pre-painted color steel of SSSC under the brand “Ton Viet Nhat” (Vietnamese – Japanese steel sheet) are produced on an advanced line which are completely new and imported from TENOVA, a widely known metallurgical group from Italy. Especially, the galvanized steel sheets of SSSC are produced on a continuous hot-dip galvanizing line with the modern NOF (non-oxidizing furnace) which is highly erosion-resistant in natural condition and environmentally friendly. The technical and quality standards such as Japanese Industrial Standards JIS G3302; JIS G3321, American Society for Testing and Materials ASTM A653/A653M, A792/A792M can satisfy the requirements from difficult markets including the U.S., Japan and Europe.

With the motto of continuous search for new business opportunities, one of SSSC’s directions in the period 2018-2020 is to expand the global market, especially big ones such as the U.S. and Europe. Since 2016, hundreds of thousand tons of SSSC’s products have been exported to South East Asia countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia and even Australia, Europe and the U.S. In the period of 2015-2017, nearly 100,000 tons of steel has been exported to the U.S. market in particular. Although the U.S. Department of Commerce has set up protective tariffs to avoid tax fraud of galvanized steel that is exported from Vietnam but originated in China in 2018, SSSC’s consistent target is to speed up the export to the U.S. market. Mr. Nguyen Van Sua, Vice Chairman of Vietnam Steel Association, said “Previously, 100% hot-rolled steel coils used for producing galvanized steel and cold-rolled steel coil in Vietnam were imported from many countries including China. However, since June 2017, Formosa started producing this material. With the quantity of only about 200,000 tons of galvanized steel exported to the U.S., meanwhile, the production of hot-rolled steel coil can reach one million tons; therefore, Vietnam steel manufacturers can prove the origin of their products.”

Thanks to all of these advantages, it is believed that Southern Steel Sheet Co., Ltd. and the brand “Ton Viet Nhat” (Vietnamese – Japanese steel sheet) will grow sustainably and enlarge the market share remarkably when focusing on export with the competitive prices and premium quality that can meet the strict technical standards in Europe and the U.S.
